Last month, Delta Air Lines is put its route planning up for a vote. Through the airline’s first-ever Route Race, it invited SkyMiles Members and Delta employees to choose which new Mediterranean destination would join its network in summer 2026. The airline has yet to release the results, but one aviation insider has leaked the top pick (and it wasn’t even a close call).

DL: Sardinia won and it wasn't close

Delta already flies to more than 300 destinations worldwide and operated its largest-ever transatlantic schedule this summer. The launch of nonstop service to Catania-Fontanarossa Airport (CTA) in Sicily was part of this season’s offerings. Now, it looks like Sardinia, Italy will be the next addition to the route map.

Delta New Destinations

From August 25th to 29th, SkyMiles Members could cast their votes in the Delta app. Each vote helped decide which Delta Mediterranean route should be added to the map next summer. Results were supposed to be announced within 30 days, but @JonNYC leaked the winner a bit early and according to him, “it wasn’t close.”

If this is correct, Sardinia beat out Malta and Ibiza. There is nothing that says that Delta can’t choose to add all three. We’ll have to wait and see what Delta announces when it’s ready with the press release.

Anthony’s Take: Sardinia is beautiful and I enjoyed staying at the 7Pines Resort (review here). Let’s see if this is correct or if Delta chooses to add all three cities.

I visited Corsica this summer and it was beautiful! It wasn’t too crowded (although busy for August) and it didn’t feel overly touristy. I love that it has beaches and mountains and the food was wonderful. You could visit both on a long trip!
