I found myself one night short of qualifying for Marriott Bonvoy® Titanium status and needed to book something to get me over the hump. I found the most inexpensive hotel in the area to be the Four Points by Sheraton Suites Tampa Airport Westshore and booked a single night.
Anthony’s Take: I was impressed with the lush courtyard and the size of the suite I booked for an inexpensive rate. While the hotel is not luxe, it’s functional and provides everything travelers need when exploring the area. We were not there long and I did not dine in the hotel, but the lobby was nicely decorated for the holidays and it offers an indoor pool.
Booking
I was booked into a Spacious, 1 Bedroom Suite, 1 King, Sofa Bed directly from Marriott.com on a “Member Rate Prepay Non-refundable Non-changeable.” It cost $160 including taxes and fees for the night. The hotel can also be booked with Marriott Bonvoy® points (16,000-29,500 points per night) with rates varying since Marriott eliminated its award buckets.
Transportation to/from the Hotel
I live not far from the hotel, so I drove the 4.9 miles. It took around 15 minutes. The hotel is not too far from Tampa International Airport (TPA) if you’re looking for a stay near there.
Location
The hotel is near plenty of stores, restaurants, and the International Plaza shopping mall.
Check-in
I arrived at the hotel around 6:00 PM and my suite was ready. Check-in desks are on the left side when you enter the lobby. The agent was friendly and asked if I needed a late checkout (I did not). The hotel is all suites, so there are not really upgrade opportunities here. A minute later, I had my keys and was off to my suite.
The lobby has tons of seating configurations.
It was nicely decorated for the holidays.
I loved that the lobby opened into a huge atrium that was filled with plants and water features. It felt tropical and fun.
There was holiday decor tucked everywhere.
I’m not usually a fan of these old-school, atrium-style hotels, but this one did a good job with the space.
There were multiple sets of elevators. The ones closer to the front desk were near our suite.
The hallways are a bit dark and a little dated. The hotel was built in 1986, but has been well maintained.
I liked being able to look down over the courtyard.
Spacious, 1 Bedroom Suite, 1 King, Sofa Bed (629)
There are 261 suites at the hotel.
The suite opened into a living area. It had a couch, chair, and several tables.
A desk and chair were across from the couch with a TV mounted above it.
An ice bucket and bottles of water were found here.
A table and two chairs were on the side.
A cabinet in the corner held a sink, refrigerator, microwave, and a coffeemaker along with cups, coffee, and condiments.
The microwave is convenient for longer stays.
The refrigerator was below and empty for guest use.
The bathroom was between the living room and bedroom. It held a vanity with a single sink, toilet, and shower/tub combo.
The vanity had lots of counter space.
There were two bottles of Activ body lotion and hand wash on the counter.
The toilet was placed pretty snugly between the vanity and tub.
The shower/tub combo was fine (although I generally hate these) with adequate water pressure and temperature.
Bottles of Activ shampoo, conditioner, and body wash were mounted to the wall.
A large mirror was outside of the bathroom door.
The bedroom was a decent size and held a king-sized bed and two nightstands.
A TV was mounted to the wall across from the bed above a dresser and next to an armchair.
A closet was next to the chair. It held an ironing board, iron, luggage rack, and safe.
Public Areas & Amenities
The Four Points by Sheraton Suites Tampa Airport Westshore offers comfortable lobby seating, a fitness center, a restaurant, a business center in the lobby, an ATM, and an indoor pool (pictured above).
Towels were available by the pool.
The fitness center was next door. It was fine and offered a good mix of equipment.
Towels were also available here.
An ATM was found in the lobby.
The business center was close to the atrium.
The restaurant was empty while we were there.
Overall Impression: The Four Points by Sheraton Suites Tampa Airport Westshore is functional and I really liked the tropical atrium. If you need a hotel near the airport, this is not a bad choice while in Tampa.
