Ultra-low cost carrier Frontier Airlines will launch nonstop service from both Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) and New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK). This marks Frontier’s return to Newark after it pulled out in 2022 and the first time it has served JFK.
Two new routes are being added to the network with 1x to 2x daily service from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) and 2x daily flights from New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to San Juan’s Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU). It’s interesting that Frontier has chosen to serve San Juan from these two New York City-area airports as the route is already served quite heavily.
Service to/from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) is operated by United Airlines 3x daily, JetBlue 1x daily, and Spirit 1x daily. There are even more flights from New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) with 7x daily JetBlue flights and 3x daily on Delta Air Lines. I’ll be curious to see if this becomes profitable and if Frontier tries to add any more flights from these airports.
Frontier has been trying to add more “premium” services lately like its UpFront Plus Seating (more here). This new, upgraded seating option offers extra space in the first two rows of the aircraft (similar to European Business Class where the middle seat is left vacant).
Anthony’s Take: Frontier is either looking to add some more destinations from NYC or it’s preemptively striking JetBlue unless it cuts more routes (although these seem to be pretty solid and one of JetBlue’s longest running routes from JFK).
