American Airlines is launching service to its sixth destination in The Bahamas with 2x weekly flights from Miami International Airport (MIA) to Governor’s Harbour Airport (GHB). José María Giraldo, American Airlines Managing Director of Operations for Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central America, said:

We are excited to celebrate the launch of our sixth destination in The Bahamas, Governor’s Harbour, further strengthening our commitment to this unspoiled paradise. This new route marks our next step as we continue to expand American’s presence in the Caribbean and Atlantic, where we are proud to lead as the largest U.S. airline. With this new destination, we will now be offering up to 30 peak-day flights to The Bahamas, playing a vital role in the country’s travel and tourism industry.”

The Bahamas has over 700 islands and cays and is located 50 miles off the coast of South Florida. American Airlines offers the most Bahamian destinations of any US carrier. The new flights to Governor’s Harbour Airport (GHB) will be operated with an Embraer E175 aircraft. It features 12 First Class, 20 Main Cabin Extra, and 44 Main Cabin seats.

Anthony’s Take: Great Exuma is my favorite island in The Bahamas. I’ve never been to Eleuthera, but hear good things about it and French Leave Resort, Autograph Collection. It’s been added to my ever-growing list.

Saves about an hour of driving for those staying near GHB or south of it vs flying to ELH, so that’s nice. This will be the only scheduled jet service from GHB and the only service with first class, with the remainder being props.
