Alaska Airlines has started flying one of the 10 new winter destinations planned from the West Coast today. The airline added both beach and ski destinations to its route map this year.

Starting today, Alaska Airlines is connecting Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) with La Paz International Airport (LAP) in Mexico. This year-round route will run 2x to 3x weekly using an Embraer E175 aircraft with 12 First Class, 12 Premium, and 52 Economy Class seats. I didn’t know this, but Alaska is the number one US-based carrier with the most flights from the West Coast to the most cities in Mexico.

Next month, Alaska will begin flying the following routes:

  • Boise Airport (BOI) to/from Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport (BZN) (5x weekly; starts on December 19th and runs through April 21st)
  • Boise Airport (BOI) to/from John Wayne Airport (SNA) (daily; starts on December 19th and runs year round)
  • Fresno Yosemite International Airport (FAT) to/from Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla Guadalajara International Airport (GDL) (daily; starts on December 3rd and runs through February 12th)
  • Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to/from Kelowna International Airport (YLW) (daily; starts on December 19th and runs through March 18th)
  • San Diego International Airport (SAN) to/from Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO) (daily; starts on December 19th and runs through April 21st)
  • San Diego International Airport (SAN) to/from Vail’s Eagle County Regional Airport (EGE) (3x weekly; starts on December 20th and runs through March 16th)
  • San Francisco International Airport (SFO) Liberia’s Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport (LIR) (1x weekly; starts on December 21st and runs through May 11th)
  • Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) to/from Liberia’s Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport (LIR) (1x weekly; starts on December 20th and runs through May 10th)
  • Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) to/from Vail’s Eagle County Regional Airport (EGE) (3x weekly; starts on December 20th and runs through March 16th)

Kirsten Amrine, Vice President of Network Planning and Revenue Management at Alaska Airlines, said:

We’re excited to provide our guests with easier access to these sought-after destinations where they can experience winter on their own terms.”

All of the flights above will be served with Embraer E175 aircraft with the exception of the two flights to Liberia, Costa Rica and the one to Guadalajara, Mexico. Those will see Boeing 737-800 with 12 First Class, 30 Premium, and 117 Economy Class seats.

Anthony’s Take: Alaska Airlines continues to grow its West Coast footprint. It will be interesting to see what changes it makes and the direction it moves for future growth now that it has acquired Hawaiian Airlines.
