China Southern plans to bring back service to Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN) and Wuhan Tianhe International Airport (WUH) this winter. Lots of carriers have announced plans to ramp up service between the United States and China. United announced an ambitious schedule and then cut it back. Delta also announced its China plans. Government approval still stands in the way of these routes.
The aircraft will arrive in SFO on Saturdays and leave on Sundays. All subject to DOT approval.

If approved, China Southern will fly 4x weekly between Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN) on a Boeing 777-300ER. It will also have service to New York John F. Kennedy International Airport 1x weekly (also on a Boeing 777-300ER). Flights between San Francisco International Airport (SFO) and Wuhan Tianhe International Airport (WUH) will also run 1x weekly on a Boeing 777-300ER. All of these routes will run seasonally from October or November 2023 through March 2024.
Anthony’s Take: China Southern is the latest carrier to announce service between the US and China. Only a limited number of flights are being allowed between the two countries at this time. We’ll see who actually gets to fly. United has already hacked away its schedule knowing that it will not be able to have every route and frequency it wanted.
