oneworld® Launches First-Ever Hotel Loyalty Partnership With Indian Hotels Company

The oneworld® airline alliance has unveiled a unique loyalty partnership with Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL). This partnership is the first time a global airline alliance has entered into a collaboration with a hotel group. The agreement, which takes effect immediately, gives millions of travelers across the oneworld® network access to discounts, enhanced hotel benefits, and future reciprocal loyalty recognition at more than 630 hotels worldwide operated by IHCL.

The partnership covers IHCL’s diverse portfolio of brands, including Taj, Claridges Collection, Brij, SeleQtions, Clarks, Gateway, Vivanta, Ginger, Tree of Life, and amã Stays & Trails.

By linking the oneworld® global network of nearly 1,000 destinations with IHCL’s rapidly expanding hospitality portfolio across four continents, the collaboration creates new opportunities for travelers to enjoy benefits both in the air and on the ground. Among the standout properties included in the partnership are some of the world’s most iconic hotels, including the legendary Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai, the Taj Lake Palace in Udaipur, The Pierre in New York City, and the St. James’ Court Hotel in London.

Under the new arrangement, oneworld® loyalty members will receive discounted rates and special privileges when booking through dedicated partnership channels. oneworld Emerald® members will receive a 15% discount on the best available room rates, dining, non-alcoholic beverages, and spa treatments at participating IHCL properties. Sapphire and Ruby members (along with other eligible oneworld® travelers) will receive a 10% discount on those same offerings. In addition, members booking their first stay at participating IHCL hotels will receive vouchers offering further savings on accommodations and food-and-beverage experiences.

The partnership also lays the groundwork for reciprocal elite status recognition between IHCL’s Taj InnerCircle – NeuPass program and select oneworld® airline loyalty programs.

Under the planned status-matching framework:

  • oneworld® Emerald members will be matched to Taj InnerCircle – NeuPass Gold.
  • oneworld® Sapphire and Ruby members will be matched to Taj InnerCircle – NeuPass Silver.

Conversely:

  • Taj InnerCircle – NeuPass Gold and Platinum members who also belong to a oneworld® airline loyalty program will receive oneworld® Sapphire status.
  • Taj InnerCircle – NeuPass Copper and Silver members will be matched to oneworld® Ruby status.

The reciprocal recognition initiative is expected to create a more seamless travel experience for frequent flyers and hotel guests who regularly travel between India and destinations across the globe. Both organizations have indicated that the partnership is only the beginning. As the relationship evolves, oneworld® and IHCL plan to explore opportunities for travelers to earn airline loyalty points on hotel stays through participating oneworld® carrier loyalty programs.

The announcement represents another step in the growing convergence between airline and hospitality loyalty programs as travel brands seek to provide more comprehensive benefits and experiences for their most valuable customers. Over the past few years we have seen airline alliances add rail partners. SkyTeam added Trenitalia and Star Alliance partnered with ÖBB (Austrian Federal Railways). This is the first tie up with a hotel group.
