United Airlines is continuing to grow its presence at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE) with the launch of two new nonstop leisure routes to/from Miami International Airport (MIA) and Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport (LAS).
The new service is part of what United says will become its largest schedule from Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE) in more than a decade and it signals renewed investment in a city that once served as one of the airline’s hubs before operations were scaled back in 2014. This was a legacy Continental Airlines hub that was chopped to focus more on Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD).
Nonstop flights between Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE) and Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) will begin September 24th and operate year-round. Service to/from Miami International Airport (MIA) launches December 3rd as a winter seasonal route running through early April. Both routes will operate 5x weekly (Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays) using Boeing 737-800 aircraft. These offer 16 First Class, 48 Economy Plus®, and 102 Economy Class seats.

United previously served both cities from Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE) during its hub years. The airline operated more than 60,000 flights from the airport in 2013 (averaging over 160 daily departures). By comparison, United operated just over 11,000 flights from the airport last year or roughly 30 daily departures.
The airline will face competition on both new routes. Southwest Airlines and Frontier Airlines already fly nonstop to/from Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport (LAS). Frontier and American Airlines currently operate flights between Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE) and Miami International Airport (MIA).
During the peak winter travel season, United expects to operate nearly 40 daily departures to 14 destinations. In addition to its major hub connections, United will now offer nonstop service from Cleveland to seven leisure-focused non-hub markets. These include:
- Cancún International Airport (CUN)
- Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL)
- Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport (LAS)
- Miami International Airport (MIA)
- Orlando International Airport (MCO)
- Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW)
- Tampa International Airport (TPA)
The airline has also recently expanded existing Florida service, adding a second daily summer flight between Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE) and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) and moving up the launch of a second daily winter-seasonal Orlando International Airport (MCO) flight to October.
Mark Weithofer, United’s Managing Director of Domestic Network Planning, said:
Cleveland is an important market for United, and these flights continue the investment in our route network there by providing the local community with more nonstop and convenient flight options.”
Anthony’s Take: With the addition of Las Vegas and Miami, United says its Cleveland seat capacity will reach its highest level in more than ten years and reflects growing demand for leisure travel from northern Ohio travelers.
