JetBlue is rolling out a revamped boarding process designed to simplify the experience for travelers. It will replace its current letter-based system with numbered boarding groups beginning April 29th. The airline says the change is aimed at making boarding more intuitive, consistent, and easier for passengers to follow both at the gate and through announcements.

Under the new system, JetBlue will board passengers using Groups 1 through 8 instead of the existing mix of names and letters. While the structure is being simplified, the airline is also reshuffling priority access for several customer segments. Premium travelers will continue to receive early boarding. Mosaic 3 and 4 members, along with Mint passengers, will be assigned to Group 1. One of the biggest changes is for customers seated in EvenMore extra-legroom seats. These passengers are being elevated to Group 2, where they will board alongside Mosaic 1 and 2 members, which is an upgrade from their previous position.

JetBlue is also introducing a new Group 3, which includes:

  • JetBlue Premier Card cardmembers
  • JetBlue Business Card cardmembers
  • Passengers purchasing Blue Extra fares
  • Customers selecting Early Boarding through the airline’s Perks You Pick program

Passengers traveling on Blue Basic fares will not be eligible for Early Boarding perks.

Updated Boarding Order (Starting April 29th):

  • Pre-boarding: Customers with disabilities
  • Group 1: Mosaic 3 and 4 members, Mint customers
  • Group 2: Mosaic 1 and 2 members, EvenMore customers
  • Group 3: Eligible credit card holders, Blue Extra fares, Early Boarding perks
  • Courtesy Boarding: Active military and customers traveling with car seats or strollers
  • Group 4: JetBlue Vacations customers and general boarding by seat location
  • Groups 5 to 8: General boarding by seat location

The shift aligns JetBlue more closely with other major airlines that use numbered boarding systems to help reduce confusion during the boarding process. At the same time, the airline is expanding benefits for premium seating customers and credit card holders to reinforce its focus on ancillary revenue and loyalty programs.

Anthony’s Take: The update represents a balance between simplifying operations and enhancing perks for higher-value customers. Passengers will likely find it easier and I don’t think any group loses anything here.
