A recent work trip had me in Atlanta for a few days and I stayed at the Westin Atlanta Perimeter North. Our team was able to negotiate a good rate based on an upcoming event that we will be holding there. The hotel is what you’d expect for a location on the outskirts of Atlanta that caters to business travelers (with several offices nearby).

Anthony’s Take: This hotel suited my needs and I spent most of the time in a conference room. There is a restaurant, pool, and small market (with meh hours) in the hotel. Prepare to call Uber or have a rental car if you’re staying here as there is not much of anything within walking distance. The staff was friendly and the room was fine. The biggest issue that I had with the hotel was related to the insanely slow elevators. There are four, but only one was working during my stay. It easily took 15 to 20 minutes (or longer) every time I needed to go up or down from my room.  Eventually, I started walking from the 18th floor. Management was aware of this issue, but did not seem to be doing anything about it.

Westin Atlanta Perimeter Booking

Booking

I was booked into a 1 King Bed, Traditional Guest Room on a negotiated rate. It was almost identical to the “Member Flexible Rate” that I could have booked through Marriott. The room cost $162 per night plus taxes and fees. Rates are pretty reasonable at this property and only spike when there is a larger event at the hotel. Marriott did away with award charts a few years ago, but redemptions can be had for between 21,000 and 39,000 Marriott Bonvoy® points per night.

Transportation to/from the Hotel

I took an Uber Comfort from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) to the hotel and back two days later. The ride there took around around 36 minutes (it’s around 33.6 miles) and cost $68. Departing, the ride was around $74 and took around the same time.

Location

The hotel is located near the Perimeter Mall, Sandy Springs Performing Arts Center, Concourse at Landmark Center, Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre, and Concourse Athletic Club. There are not really any options for restaurants or stores within walking distance.

The lobby opens with a wall of live plants (similar to what American Express has in the entrances of its lounges.

There was a ton of seating in the large lobby. I liked that it was split into smaller areas. These felt welcoming and were hardly ever filled.

Check-In

The reception desk is to the right when you enter the hotel from the valet. An agent was ready with my room when I arrived around 1:00 PM. I was upgraded to a Superior Guest Room, 1 King, Lake View. There were no suites available for upgrades. I chose points as a welcome amenity and declined the late checkout that the agent offered me. My keys were printed and I was off to the glacially slow elevators.

The elevators are the the left (past the market) when facing reception.

The elevator lobby and hallways on my floor were clean and in good repair. The carpets felt a bit dated (like something Bill Cosby would have worn on his namesake TV show).

There are 372 guest rooms and suites at the Westin Atlanta Perimeter North.

The room opened with a small foyer.

The bathroom was to the left. It held a vanity with a single sink, a toilet, and a glassed-in shower.

The vanity offered a good amount of counter space. The toilet was next to the vanity.

A bar of Westin’s White Tea scented soap and a bottle of lotion were on the counter.

The shower was standard size. Water pressure and temperature were both fine.

More bottles of toiletries were mounted to the shower wall.

A small mini-bar area was next to the bathroom. It held bottled water, an ice bucket, and glasses. An empty refrigerator was in the cabinet.

On top was a coffeemaker, tea, coffee, condiments, and cups.

The bedroom was straight ahead. It held a king-sized bed, nightstands, a chaise lounge, a desk, and a TV.

The TV was mounted above a desk and across from the bed.

SAVOR has both an indoor and outdoor restaurant space. I did not get to eat here during this visit.

Computers and a printer make up the business center near the entrance.

Overall Impression:

I’ll be returning next month on business. I just hope the elevators are fixed as they were a real problem during my last visit.
