2026 has already started in the United Kingdom and word has creeped out from internal British Airways’ documents that the airline is planning a cost-saving move on January 7th. Many short-haul routes within Europe will lose hot breakfasts in Club Europe (Business Class).

A FlyerTalk thread broke the news a few hours ago and it has already garnered 80 replies on the frequent flyer message board. The following routes will lose hot breakfasts in just a few days:

  • Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS)
  • Belfast City Airport (BHD)
  • Brussels Airport (BRU)
  • Dublin Airport (DUB)
  • Jersey Airport (JER)
  • Manchester Airport (MAN)
  • Newcastle International Airport (NCL)
  • Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG)

The internal memo cites that breakfast “will switch to a fresh fruit plate, yoghurt and a heated pastry, making it easier to deliver and giving you more time in the cabin with our customers.” I’m not sure what flight attendants will do with those additional minutes on these short flights. This is clearly cost cutting no matter how British Airways wants to spin it.

BA Afternoon Tea 2

Anthony’s Take: I was quite pleased with the afternoon tea that I received on a flight between London Heathrow Airport (LHR) and Copenhagen Airport (CPH). I hate when airlines cut costs. At least these passengers will still get a cold meal, which is more than they would in the US.
