I’ve long lauded United Airlines for its excellent app and website functionality. I find it to be by far the best of the US airlines and I rarely have to call United to get anything done. While chasing upgrades has not been something I have done in many years, United is now making it easier to see your place on the upgrade standby list up to a whopping 30 days in advance.

Upgrade lists used to be visible on the website or with the app two days before departure. With United’s latest update, travelers can check their position up to 30 days out. With no change fees, this will give some flyers the opportunity to gauge their chances and shift plans accordingly. If you have an existing reservation in Economy Class, you can see your spot on the upgrade standby list by going to “My Trips” and then. clicking on “Upgrade Waitlist” below your seat assignment.

Upgrade standby lists will display Complimentary Premier Upgrades (CPUs) and those supported with either miles or PlusPoints. One thing to keep in mind is that your position on the upgrade standby list can and will change as other passengers book seats or change flights.

Anthony’s Take: This is a nice addition and a way for United to be even more transparent. It’s great to see United continue to lead with its customer-facing tech.
