Avianca will begin offering its Business Class across more than 80 routes with premium cabin coming to 40 additional routes between September 15th and December. This expansion will bring a premium choice for international travelers departing on all international routes from Bogotá’s El Dorado International Airport (BOG), Medellín’s Jose Maria Cordova International Airport (MDE), and San Salvador’s El Salvador International Airport Saint Óscar Arnulfo Romero y Galdámez (SAL).
Travelers flying to/from Avianca’s three major hubs will see an increase in Business Class availability on many US routes this year, including:
Bogotá’s El Dorado International Airport (BOG) to/from:
- Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW)
- San Juan’s Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU)
- Tampa International Airport (TPA)
Medellín’s Jose Maria Cordova International Airport (MDE) to/from:
- Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL)
- Miami International Airport (MIA)
- Orlando International Airport (MCO)
- San Juan’s Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU)
San Salvador’s El Salvador International Airport Saint Óscar Arnulfo Romero y Galdámez (SAL) to/from:
- Boston Logan International Airport (BOS)
- Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD)
- Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW)
- Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH)
- Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport (LAS)
- Miami International Airport (MIA)
- Ontario International Airport (ONT)
- Orlando International Airport (MCO)
Avianca’s Business Class cabin on these short- and medium-haul routes is operated with Airbus A320 aircraft. The premium cabin is akin to First Class within the United States with recliner style seating in a 2-2 configuration versus any sort of lie-flat seats. Avianca’s aggressive expansion of its premium offering signals the airline’s commitment to capturing both the regional business and premium leisure market. Premium demand continues to be strong and this has driven Avianca’s decision.
Avianca CEO, Frederico Pedreira, said:
A year ago, we reintroduced the Business Class experience on 11 routes within the Americas from Bogotá. The response from our passengers was immediate, which led us to add 23 more routes in December. Today, I’m thrilled to announce that we are extending the service to all of our international routes from Bogotá, Medellín, and San Salvador.”
Anthony’s Take: It’s good to see Avianca reverse the decision it made in 2022 to remove Business Class from its shorter routes. I love having the option of flying this Star Alliance carrier.

The ORD-SAL route should be really helpful to Hyatt for visiting their call center.
