I’ve written several times about Air Transat. Before last year, I had never even heard of the airline, but it was named the World’s Best Leisure Airline in the Skytrax World Airline Awards in both 2023 and 2024. Today, Air Transat announced a new route and also shared that it’s extending flights to Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport (MAD) through the winter with a start again in February versus the summer.
Flights from Montréal-Trudeau International Airport (YUL) to/from Guadalajara International Airport (GDL) will begin on December 13th and run 2x weekly on Thursdays and Saturdays. Guadalajara is the birthplace of mariachi, tequila, and offers visitors a thriving culinary scene.
As noted above, Air Transat will also extend its flights to Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport (MAD). On February 18th, it will restart 2x weekly flights from Montréal-Trudeau International Airport (YUL) on Wednesdays and Fridays. This route plays into Air Transat’s overall plan to reduce the seasonality of its transatlantic network by adding Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport (MAD) to its winter offerings in Spain (it already offers Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport (AGP) currently). To make it easier to hit up other Spanish and European destinations, Air Transat has an interline partnership with Air Europa.
Anthony’s Take: Air Transat will announce its full winter schedule soon. I’d like to try out one of its flights and will look to do so this winter.
