Air Canada announced today that it will be the launch customer for the Airbus A220 that includes a refreshed interior with XL overhead bins that offer 15% more space. The first aircraft with this new interior will arrive in 2026.

The new interior is being called “Airspace.” This term was previously used for Airbus A320 and A330 aircraft. The new Airbus A220 Airspace cabin will also include a new ceiling design and lighting. The new Airspace cabin will launch alongside other Air Canada upgrades including an updated cabin interior and seat back entertainment.

John Moody, Managing Director, Onboard Product at Air Canada, said:

The A220 has already become a favorite among our customers, and we’re thrilled to be the launch customer for the next cabin evolution of this Canadian-designed and assembled aircraft. At Air Canada, we’re always looking for opportunities to evolve our products and make travel more comfortable and convenient. The introduction of larger overhead bins on future A220s means more space for your belongings, quicker boarding, and an even better experience on board.”

Air Canada currently operates a fleet of 34 Airbus A220-300 with 31 more ordered.

Anthony’s Take: I have not flown the Airbus A220 with Air Canada, but I am a fan of the aircraft, overall. Improving the size of the overhead bins makes it that much better.
