I stayed at the W Chicago City Center many years ago. It was one of two W Hotels in the city and neither one of them was very good. I preferred this one to the W Lakeshore, which I’m shocked is still a W given how run down it has become. The W Chicago City Center is now THE MIDLAND HOTEL, Chicago, A Tribute Portfolio Hotel.
The hotel sits within the Chicago Loop. It’s near landmarks like Millennium Park, The Art Institute of Chicago, and the Chicago Theatre. THE MIDLAND HOTEL, Chicago, A Tribute Portfolio Hotel is undergoing a a huge renovation to blend its historic roots with a modern vision. It was originally built in 1929 as a social club for Chicago’s business elite and later became “Chicago’s Friendliest Hotel.” The public spaces are being refreshed while preserving the hotel’s Beaux-Arts charm.
The second phase will see the hotel’s 403 guest rooms and suites renovated into modern spaces while maintaining the historical elements.
Cash rates for the hotel start around $225 per night. If looking to redeem Marriott Bonvoy® points for stays, the redemption costs have not yet been loaded on Marriott.com.
Anthony’s Take: It will be good to see this historic hotel get an investment and a refresh. Now if only Marriott would crack down on the W Lakeshore.
