I recently flew from Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) to Tampa International Airport (TPA) on Spirit Airlines. I’ve flown this route many times, but this was the first time that I was seated by someone so crass. The woman in the Trump hat started spewing lies, misinformation, and acting out before we even boarded and it continued throughout the flight as Chardonnay kept her fueled.

Trump Lady

She and her husband watched videos without headphones and shouted offensive things like “lock her up,” “let’s go Brandon,” and “Kamala Harris will win the election if she stays on her knees.” I repeatedly gave the woman dirty looks. She slurred her words while telling her husband that I was looking at her. He told her to “shut up” and said that I was an air marshal. What surprised me most was that flight attendants did not admonish the noise she was making, but instead told her they liked her hat and that they were voting for Trump as well.

On the other side, View From the Wing shares that Kamala Harris chocolate bars were being handed out by a flight attendant on an American Airlines flight. While not as offensive as the woman making loud, inappropriate comments, these have no place being distributed either.

Anthony’s Take: Being a belligerent fool is not a great look regardless of politics. It’s tough enough right now with the country being so divided. Politics (like religion) can be contentious topics and do not belong being discussed, promoted, or debated in flight.

I have no problem with someone expressing their support for a candidate by wearing a hat or shirt or whatever (when the first Trump assassination attempt occurred in PA, I was on board a UA Express flight to Idaho Falls that already had nearly a dozen people wearing political garb and that was quite the conversation as we landed and everyone turned back on phones). That’s their right. But they shouldn’t interfere with others. I sat next to an interesting fellow on a Spirit flight out of LGA a few weeks ago wearing a MAGA hat and exposing arms/legs nearly saturated in tattoos, but didn’t meet any visual stereotypes and was very nice and polite to the crew and to me.

But yes, doing it to be obnoxious or handing out propaganda or chanting stuff is way too far and shouldn’t be tolerated. I almost said “in a polite society” but I caught myself realizing I’m talking about the US here.

Looking in from the outside, it is amazing how a hole nation almost declares War on itself over something so mundane as a political election.
Come on folks, no matter what side wins, it wont matter much anyways 🤷🏻‍♂️
