Avelo Airlines launched in 2021 and operates a fleet of modern Boeing 737 aircraft. It serves destinations across the United States and competes with Spirit Airways, Breeze Airways, Allegiant Air, Frontier Airlines, and Sun Country Airlines. Avelo recently celebrated its third birthday and has been aggressively tweaking its route network, adding new destinations, cutting some, and it opened its sixth aircraft base last month. Earlier today, I wrote about 18 new routes that it just announced. Tucked within this press release is the news that Avelo will no longer be flying only domestic routes as it is launching flights to two international vacation spots.
Hartford’s Bradley International Airport (BDL) will see both of the international routes take flight in November. These include:
- Cancún International Airport (CUN) (2x weekly on Wednesdays and Saturdays; starts on November 20th)
- Montego Bay’s Sangster International Airport (MBJ) (2x weekly on Wednesdays and Saturdays; starts on November 16th)
Avelo Airlines Founder and CEO, Andrew Levy, said:
The expansion we are announcing today is the most substantial in our airline’s three-year history. Avelo’s purpose is to Inspire Travel and the addition of…our first two international destinations will make getting where our Customers want to go easier than ever.”
Anthony’s Take: Spirit and Frontier have been flying to the Caribbean and Mexico for some time and it was only a matter of time before Avelo Airlines added some international spots. These are two hugely popular destinations for US vacationers and I think these routes will do well for Avelo.
