In June, I joined Avelo Airlines for its inaugural flight from Lakeland Linder International Airport (LAL) to Tweed-New Haven Regional Airport (HVN) (review here). I covered the festivities pre-flight in this post. It was an exciting day not just for Avelo Airlines, but also for the airport. Avelo added service to a central Florida airport that has not seen passenger flights in more than 10 years. The airport is only a 35-minute drive from me in Tampa and this was also my first time flying Avelo Airlines. Now, it’s being rumored that Avelo is announcing new routes from Lakeland Linder International Airport (LAL) tomorrow.
Avelo Airlines is set to announce its “largest route expansion” in its history tomorrow.
This comes from Lakeland Airport (LAL) which likely means:
1. Avelo is adding at least 10 new routes from LAL
2. Avelo opens a base in LALAny guesses on what Avelo will add from LAL? pic.twitter.com/3DnBiOK7mQ

No official word has been provided yet, but @IshrionA speculates that as many as 10 new routes will be announced tomorrow. I’d venture to guess that some of these would be to Avelo’s bases, which include:
- Delaware’s Wilmington Airport (ILG)
- Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR)
- Las Vegas’ Harry Reid International Airport (LAS)
- Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU)
Orlando International Airport (MCO) and Tweed-New Haven Regional Airport (HVN) are also bases, but Orlando is too close and New Haven already has service.
Anthony’s Take: I love that Avelo Airlines might be adding new routes from Lakeland Linder International Airport (LAL) tomorrow. The airport is convenient and my first flight with Avelo was pleasant. Stay tuned as I’ll report back when I hear more.

Lakeland “International” Airport….haha
I would definitely use LAL again. I hope Avelo start’s service from my alternative airport – Concord (USA). It’s 2 miles from me versus 20 to CLT. Currently have Avelo to HVN and Allegiant to PIE/SFB/FLL/PGD.
Lakeland did a fantastic job with the terminal and Avis seems to have a pretty sizeable operation there (I was chatting with the manager when I returned the car I one-way’d from MCO the morning of the LAL inaugural) with ability to grab cars from surrounding airports… I think he said they have space for 40 cars out front of Lakeland plus plenty of space wherever their detailing shed is at. I am fine driving an extra 20-30 minutes or so after a flight if I am replacing time spent dealing with walking through an airport just to get out of it, riding a bus to a rental car center, etc.
Great to meet you on that flight. I think you might be pleasantly surprised tomorrow.
