Yesterday, gang members under the direction of Jimmy ChĆ©rizier (āBarbecueā) demolished a wall of the Haiti National Police Academy, which is located close to the US embassy and got into a gunfight near the airport. A JetBlue flight was preparing for takeoff to New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) when the incident erupted.

CNN reports that flights at Port-au-Prince Toussaint Louverture International Airport (PAP) have been disrupted again today by heavy gunfire. The Caribbean nation is struggling to contain surging gang violence and political instability. The US Department of State has issued a Level 4 warning (it means do not travel there). On its site, it details the issues:
Multiple locations in Port-au-Prince are experiencing gang-related violence including intense, sometimes sustained gunfire, armed confrontations between gangs and police and security forces, barricades and other traffic disruption.Ā Gang-related violence is impacting security and operations at critical infrastructure including the airport and main seaport.”
Anthony’s Take: Haiti continues to crumble and it’s not safe for visitors or locals. It looks like the airlines are monitoring the situation to figure out future flight plans.
