It’s been a busy week for JetBlue. On Tuesday, its planned merger with Spirit Airlines was blocked when a judge ruled against it. Yesterday, the two airlines filed a joint appeal (more here). Now, JetBlue has announced some cuts to its route network out of New York and plans to stop serving Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) altogether.
Out of New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK), JetBlue will cease flights to the following cities:
- Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport (MKE)
- Mercedita International Airport (PSE)
- Portland International Airport (PDX)
- San Jose Mineta International Airport (SJC)
Flights between Westchester County Airport (HPN) and Martha’s Vineyard Airport (MVY) are also being cut from the schedule. Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) is being dropped entirely.
JetBlue says that the timing of these cuts is coincidental and “are a necessary quick step to help return our business to profitability. All the routes included have recently underperformed our expectations and these changes come as post-COVID travel patterns continue to evolve. The changes we are announcing today have been in the works for nearly a month – long before we got the court’s decision on our acquisition of Spirit Airlines.”
JetBlue has been making multiple adjustments to its schedule since its Northeast Alliance with American Airlines was dissolved last year. In October, it cut 14 routes from New York LaGuardia Airport (LGA) including removing Burlington International Airport (BTV) from its route map.
Anthony’s Take: JetBlue has made some adjustments to its schedule and more will likely be coming depending on how its appeal regarding merging with Spirit Airlines pans out.

Jetblue is not leaving JFK-MSP. They are seasonally cutting JFK-MKE from October on for winter.
Fixed. Thanks!
Also JFK-PSE is a seasonal cut for winter as well.
