Frontier Airlines announced yesterday that it is adding seven new routes starting in March 2024. The ultra-low-cost carrier will be beefing up its presence at Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) as well as several other US destinations.
Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT)
Flights from Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) will target hubs and focus cities for both American Airlines and Delta Air Lines. New routes include:
- Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) (4x weekly; starts on May 17th)
- Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) (3x weekly; starts on May 16th)
- Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) (2x daily; starts on May 16th)
- Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) (4x weekly; starts on May 17th)
The intra-Pennsylvania route will face intense competition from American Airlines (it operates flights to Philadelphia 3x daily).
Other New Routes:
- Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE) to/from Montego Bay Sangster International Airport (MBJ) (3x weekly; starts on March 9th)
- Hartford Bradley International Airport (BDL) to/from Tampa International Airport (TPA) (4x weekly; starts on March 7th)
- Jacksonville International Airport to/from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) (3x weekly; starts on March 8th)
Josh Flyr, Vice President of Network and Operations Design at Frontier Airlines, said:
As we prepare to launch our spring schedule and increase service to destinations across the U.S. and Caribbean, now is a better time than ever to take advantage of Frontier’s ultra-low fares and friendly service.”
Anthony’s Take: Frontier going head to head with American and Delta will help to keep prices down. The legacy carriers are generally protective of their hubs. We’ll see if they counter with additional frequencies and what this does to these fares.
