Delta Air Lines continues to grow its presence at its Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC) hub with 13 new gates opening in Concourse A. The final stage of construction of the 900,000-square-foot facility was completed and opened yesterday.
Concourse A partially opened in September 2020. There were 28 gates and then nine more opened this past summer. The total number of gates being operated out of Terminal A now equals an impressive 50. All flights operating from Concourse A will now use jet bridges and bus operations to remote hardstands will be a thing of the past.
This expansion includes a new Delta Need Help Center and 19 additional shops and restaurants. Delta is the largest carrier in Salt Lake City. It employs over 5,400 people and offers 230 peak-day departures to 88 destinations. This means that more than 30,000 passengers fly Delta daily through the airport. In June, Delta also broke ground on a new pilot training facility, which is the first training facility investment outside of its Atlanta headquarters since 1968.
Salt Lake City Mayor, Erin Mendenhall, said:
These new gates and amenities will further elevate the guest experience at the Salt Lake City International Airport for Salt Lakers and visitors from all over the world. Salt Lake City is proud to be a Delta hub in the West and home to one of the top performing airports in the world. The completion of this expansion will provide efficient services and modern facilities for travelers who are eager for a seamless journey.”
Anthony’s Take: Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC) provides some of the best views of any that I have ever flown through. I liked the airport before, but with this expansion Delta will be able to better serve passengers at one of its key hubs and provide a better experience for all of them.
