United Airlines recently announced that it has added Magnolia Bakery’s World-Famous Banana Pudding to its First Class catering for domestic flights over 901 miles. Magnolia was initially known for its cupcakes thanks to Sex and the City, but its Banana Pudding has its own cult-like following.

The bakery’s Banana Pudding Wafer Cookie Bits is now being served in United First. The individual-sized, three-ounce cups are made with real bananas. This is the first time Magnolia Bakery desserts are being served onboard a commercial airline. The pudding is shipped to United frozen and thawed for individual flights.

Aaron McMillan, United’s Managing Director of Hospitality Program, said:

The only thing more iconic than Magnolia Bakery’s Banana Pudding is enjoying that pudding at 30,000 feet in United First – we know our customers are going to love it. We’re changing the way travelers eat and drink onboard, offering more variety and more elevated options with partners like Magnolia.”

Bobbie Lloyd, CEO and Chief Baking Officer, Magnolia Bakery, added:

As an avid traveler and baker, I know what an important role food can play in your travels, which is why I’m so excited to bring this new, innovative product to thousands of adventurers each year. This is a first-of-its-kind collaboration for Magnolia Bakery and we could not be more thrilled to be working with United. Our team worked for three years to develop this new Banana Pudding and we’re delighted for guests to get a sweet taste of this beloved dessert in the skies.

Anthony’s Take: I can’t wait to have this in flight. I have been a huge fan of Magnolia Bakery for years and this is a great partnership.

I had it last night on IAH-CLT (with the “Houston signature” meal). It was pretty good and a nice change from that pie in the sky overly sweet and dense thing. I hope it lasts. Not only that it’s packaged in its own disposable thing with a lid (I’m not sure if the crew are supposed to take it off? but mine was left on, sealed) so could even take it for later.

First time having the Houston chicken/rice/beans. I’ve seen mixed reviews. This was cooked decently. While the chicken had no flavor, it at least was easy to cut and not rubbery. With the cheese sauce and the beans, it was fine.

Had it last night on the last EWR-MIA flight of the day! Super delicious. Beats the lemon tasting cheesecake that had been the staple on this route for quite some time. The bread served was a quarter the size of its usual self. I hope this was just a one off thing!

yeah its problematically good. i hope I grow tired of it so I can start ignoring it. Ditto the crab cakes out of Dulles.
