Canadian carrier, WestJet, announced today that it is expanding the nonstop service between Calgary International Airport (YYC) and Tokyo Narita International Airport (NRT) to daily year-round flights through the end of its winter schedule in March 2026. WestJet will also expand its longstanding codeshare agreement with Japan Airlines with additional destinations added beyond Tokyo.
The airline will fly daily between Calgary International Airport (YYC) and Tokyo Narita International Airport (NRT) using Boeing 787-9 aircraft with 16 Business Class, 28 Premium Economy, 60 Extended Comfort, and 216 Economy Class seats. Additionally, WestJet will expand its partnership with Japan Airlines to offer codeshare flights to both Osaka Itami Airport (ITM) and Nagoya’s Chubu Centrair International Airport (NGO).
John Weatherill, WestJet Executive Vice-President and Chief Commercial Officer, said:
Leveraging our Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet, WestJet continues to strengthen Calgary’s tourism pipeline with expanded Trans-Pacific service, creating new inroads for economic growth across Western Canada and beyond. Today’s announcement of our expansion to daily year-round service between Calgary and Tokyo further reaffirms our commitment to bolstering Canadians’ access to Asia.
These additional options to connect, made possible by our codeshare partnership with Japan Airlines, expands WestJet’s global codeshare network and will open doors for guests looking for convenient and affordable ways to explore popular destinations across Japan.”
Anthony’s Take: WestJet is seeing demand on both sides of the Pacific and that has led to this expansion. I’ve never flown WestJet long-haul, but my experiences with them between Florida and Canada have been hot or miss. Last year was great and last week was meh (review here).
