Canadian carrier, WestJet, announced today that it is adding four new and returning nonstop routes from Halifax Stanfield International Airport (YHZ) and Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport (YWG) this summer. Flights to Regina International Airport (YQR), Saskatoon John G. Diefenbaker International Airport (YXE), St. John’s International Airport (YYT), and Vancouver International Airport (YVR) begin in June and July.
WestJet will add two new and one returning route to/from Halifax Stanfield International Airport (YHZ). These include:
- Regina International Airport (YQR) (1x weekly; starts on June 29th)
- Saskatoon John G. Diefenbaker International Airport (YXE) (1x weekly; starts on June 28th)
- Vancouver International Airport (YVR) (4x weekly; returns on July 1st)
Flights between Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport (YWG) and St. John’s International Airport (YYT) begin 2x weekly on July 1st. In addition, WestJet will increase frequency on the following three routes:
- Calgary International Airport (YYC) to/from Deer Lake Regional Airport (YDF) (increases to 3x weekly)
- Halifax Stanfield International Airport (YHZ) to/from Edmonton International Airport (YEG) (increases to 13x weekly)
- Halifax Stanfield International Airport (YHZ) to/from Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport (YWG) (increases to 10x weekly)
John Weatherill, WestJet Executive Vice-President and Chief Commercial Officer, said:
These routes bring greater choice to our guests across the country and make it easier for Canadians to access our expanding transatlantic network from Halifax and St. John’s. As demand for summer travel continues to evolve, we are focused on flying people where they want to go, whether it’s reuniting with loved ones in the prairies, exploring new sights in the Maritimes or seamlessly connecting to Europe.”
The domestic service additions are strategically designed to make one-stop connectivity possible to WestJet’s flights from Halifax Stanfield International Airport (YHZ) and St. John’s International Airport (YYT) to Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS), Josep Tarradellas Barcelona–El Prat Airport (BCN), Dublin Airport (DUB), Edinburgh Airport (EDI), London Heathrow Airport (LHR), and Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG).
Anthony’s Take: I have flown WestJet a few times now and did not love my last flight as it lacked Wi-Fi, outlets, and entertainment. The flight prior to that offered all of those amenities, so it is a bit hit or miss. These domestic flights and frequency increases seem to be potentially caused by Canadians not coming to the United States and staying in Canada.
