Lufthansa announced that it was updating its Business Class cabins in 2017. All sorts of delays popped up across the pandemic and aircraft delivery. There was no word on what route would see the new seats first until this week when the German carrier shared that flights between Munich International Airport (MUC) and Vancouver International Airport (YVR) would be first this coming May.
The new seats will first appear on the newly delivered Airbus A350-900 and will continue popping up as Lufthansa takes delivery of some Boeing 787-9s. No word has been released on when the new seatmaps will be updated on Lufthansa’s site. Allegris will offer Business Class passengers several seating options including Business Class Suites, Extra Space Seats, Extra Long Beds, Privacy Seats, and Classic Seats. At rollout, these will all be priced the same. I’m guessing we’ll see a range of costs and some of these possibly restricted to HON Circle members until closer to the flight date.
Regardless of the seat type chosen, each will have direct aisle access, an 18-inch, 4K TV, noise-cancelling headphones, wireless charging, outlets, Bluetooth capabilities, and individual cooling or heating. A personalized tablet will control the seat, temperature, lighting, and entertainment functions.
Lufthansa will eventually roll out the Allegris Business Class seats on over 100 aircraft in its fleet, including the Airbus A350, Boeing 787, Boeing 747-8, and the upcoming Boeing 777-X. Allegris First Class is also coming, but this has been further delayed due to supplier issues.
Anthony’s Take: I’m excited to try out these new Business Class seats. Lufthansa is amazing in First Class (recent review here), but a bit mediocre in Business Class. This is all about to change with the awesome new seats.
