As I wrote about last month, United Airlines plans to resume daily service between Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) and Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport (TLV) with a tech stop at Munich International Airport (MUC) on March 2nd. This was the first step in fully restoring passenger and cargo services that were halted in October. The second will commence tomorrow when United begins flying nonstop from Newark.
The first two flights were on March 2nd and 4th with a stop at Munich International Airport (MUC). No flights were planned for March 3rd and 5th. Nonstop, daily flights resume tomorrow. United worked closely with both the Air Line Pilots Association and the Association of Flight Attendants to develop safety protocols and will continue to closely monitor the situation.
A second daily flight from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) could resume as early as May. Service to/from Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD), San Francisco International Airport (SFO), and Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) will resume this fall once United feels the schedule adjustments are warranted.
Anthony’s Take: United is the first US carrier to announce a resumption of service to Tel Aviv. American Airlines says that it will resume its flights in late October. Delta has cancelled flights through April 30th and will provide an update soon. Hopefully, this resumption will assist in reconnecting the two countries and will be without incident.
