United Airlines rolled out its new vision for long-haul Business Class back in June 2016. The cabin was named Polaris® and it was pretty impressive at launch with wine flights, Saks Fifth Avenue bedding, elevated meals, and at-the-time impressive lounges. The airline’s management chipped away at the amenities and cut corners to the point that I used to bring my own food on flights to Europe and skip the Business Class meal. At one point, I even compared it to meals served in prison. This has improved substantially and looks to get even better as United begins to update its Business Class cabins. Of all the amenities offered, throughout Polaris®’ existence, the headphones were never anything to get excited about. That’s about to change.
Aviation watchdog, @JonNYC shared on X that United is about to introduce Meridian noise-cancelling headphones in both United Polaris® and United Premium Plus starting on Monday, September 1st. These will be available on long-haul transatlantic and transpacific flights with them added to transcontinental and flights to Hawaii in mid-September.
Anthony’s Take: United has finally been investing again in its premium cabins. I have always thought the current headphones felt flimsy. These look like a welcome change.
