United and Air Canada are both members of Star Alliance and have entered an enhanced transborder joint business agreement. This partnership will more closely align the two airlines and will see frequencies beefed up as well as new routes between the US and Canada. While the joint venture will see them aligning schedules and sharing revenue, it will not provide reciprocal benefits for elite members in the two programs (aside from what they receive for holding status with Star Alliance).
New Routes
Two new routes are being added from Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD). These include:
- Calgary International Airport (YYC): UA1125 departs daily at 9:00 AM | UA2221 returns daily at 1:30 PM
- Vancouver International Airport (YVR): AC1037 departs 5x weekly at 5:10 PM | AC1036 returns 5x weekly at 8:15 AM
Expanded Shuttle Service Schedule
United and Air Canada plan to offer 80 transborder codeshare routes and more than 260 daily flights. This is a 20% capacity increase from last summer.
- Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) to Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) and Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) to Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) – 13x daily
- Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) to Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) and Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) to Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) – 16x daily
- San Francisco International Airport (SFO) to Vancouver International Airport (YVR) and Vancouver International Airport (YVR) to San Francisco International Airport (SFO) – 11x daily
Other Increased Service

Anthony’s Take: United and Air Canada are aligning their schedules for summer 2023 and increasing service to many destinations. This will offer a lot of options for passengers this summer.

There are some mistakes in here. I really don’t think YVR is seeing 9X daily service on all those routes.
Good catch. The press release is a little misleading as it says “There will be nine daily flights between Vancouver and New York/Newark, Houston and Chicago, and seven flights daily between Los Angeles and Vancouver.” There are 7x daily flights from LAX, but the 9x is the combination of EWR, IAH, and ORD. Thanks for pointing this out. Updated.
