United Airlines arguably has the best route network in the United States with more than 210 destinations in the US and 120 international cities. Now, the Chicago-based carrier is adding two new flights to Alaska and two to Canada this May.
Daily flights between Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) and Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport (ANC) begin on May 23rd using a Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft with 16 First Class, 54 Economy Plus, and 96 Economy Class seats. This is an entirely new route for United and it joins the flights that it offers from Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD), Denver International Airport (DEN), George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), and San Francisco International Airport (SFO).
United is also connecting Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) and Vancouver International Airport (YVR) starting on May 2nd with a Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft. This complements the daily service that Air Canada offers on this route and hasn’t been flown by United in a few years. United also flies to Vancouver International Airport (YVR) from Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD), Denver International Airport (DEN), George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), and San Francisco International Airport (SFO).
The other routes are returning to the schedule after being cut in 2019 or 2020. These include daily flights between Denver International Airport (DEN) and Fairbanks International Airport (FAI) using a Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft (starting on May 23rd). United also serves Fairbanks from Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) daily. Halifax Stanfield International Airport (YHZ) is also returning to United’s route network (on May 23rd) with 2x daily flights to/from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) on an Embraer 175 operated by Republic Airways DBA United Express with 12 First Class, 32 Economy Plus, and 26 Economy Class seats. Air Canada also serves this route once daily. American Airlines and Delta Air Lines will bring back their flights from New York LaGuardia (LGA) this summer as well (Delta will operate the route 2x daily).
All of these routes are seasonal with September or October end dates planned.
Anthony’s Take: US airlines are constantly cutting and adding new routes. United has been pretty adventurous with its appetite to add flights and these new options will likely be well received this summer.
