Last night, I wrote about the accident that occurred with American Airlines flight AA5342 from Wichita Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport (ICT) that was operated by PSA Airlines, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Dallas-based carrier. A mid-air collision with an army helicopter has led authorities to believe that there are no survivors after the aircraft crashed into the icy Potomac River.

The US Army Black Hawk helicopter had three on board and the American Eagle flight was carrying 60 passengers and four crew. American figure skaters, their coaches, and families were traveling from Wichita and are believed to be among the deceased. Rescue efforts are still seeing bodies recovered from the river. Russian state media has also confirmed that Russian figure skaters were also on board. No black boxes have been recovered yet and the investigation and rescue efforts will continue.

Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) will re-open today at 11:00 AM.

A man on Reddit shared that he knew multiple families on the flight.

Washington’s Fire Chief says that they do not expect to find any survivors.

Anthony’s Take: This is an ongoing investigation and a tragic situation. My condolences to all of the family and friends involved. It will be interesting to see how all of this unfolded.
