I’m headed to Tampa International Airport (TPA) from Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) this morning. United is once again my primary carrier and I have been flying so much that I should have Premier 1K® requalification wrapped up by the end of the month (I might be one or two segments off, but the spend is already over). With all of these trips, I find myself dining on United aircraft quite a bit. The airline has five staple breakfast dishes that I see offered over and over again. These include Peach Cobbler Crepes (review here), Monterey Jack and Red Pepper Egg White Bites (review here), Scrambled Eggs (review here), Coconut Chia Seed Oatmeal (I really don’t want to eat this one, but might so I can have a comprehensive review of all dishes), and the Strawberry Almond Smoothie Bowl. I had not tried the last one yet, so I decided we’d be a bit healthier today and give it a whirl.
The Strawberry Almond Smoothie Bowl is described as having “fresh kiwi, blueberries, shaved coconut, and toasted almonds.” This dish is only offered in advance through pre-orders placed on United.com or the mobile app.
The Strawberry Almond Smoothie Bowl was surprisingly tasty. It was a little more frozen than I would have liked, but after it thawed the flavors worked well. The tray also contained a fruit salad.
Passengers were given the choice of a croissant or a chocolate croissant. The chocolate croissant is new for United and I much prefer it over the regular version.
Anthony’s Take: This was a satisfying, healthier breakfast option. I’d order again on a future flight. I will keep testing out new dishes as I fly United and other airlines and report back.
