Spirit Airlines is continuing to tweak its route map. The low-cost carrier has dropped quite a few routes over the past few months. Last month, I wrote about Spirit cutting 14 routes and then slashing 18 more this month. Now, five more routes are being discontinued. While there are lots of removals, flyers at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) have three new nonstop destinations on the way.

Aviation watchdog, @IshrionA broke the news on X today. Route cancellations include:

  • Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to/from John Glenn Columbus International Airport (CMH) (ends on January 8th)
  • Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to/from Nashville International Airport (BNA) (ends on November 6th)
  • Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to/from Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) (ends on October 31st)
  • Richmond International Airport (RIC) to/from Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) (ends on November 5th)
  • San Antonio International Airport (SAT) to/from Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) (ends on November 5th)

All of these routes will still see nonstop service from other carriers (American, Breeze Airways, Delta, and Southwest all fly some of the routes) with the exception of Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to/from John Glenn Columbus International Airport (CMH).

Spirit Aircraft

Atlanta travelers will soon have three additional nonstop routes. All of these are currently flown by Delta Air Lines and Southwest. These new additions for Spirit from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) include:

  • John Glenn Columbus International Airport (CMH)
  • Indianapolis International Airport (IND)
  • San Antonio International Airport (SAT)

No launch dates or frequencies have officially been announced yet.

Anthony’s Take: The delays caused by Airbus and Spirit’s continued march toward trying to serve routes where it sees greater demand or higher yields are likely what is driving these cuts. Route networks update all the time and some of these will return someday.
