Spirit Airlines is making some adjustments to its 2024 route network. The low-cost carrier has just cancelled ten routes next year with several being ceded to competitors, Frontier and JetBlue.

San Juan

San Juan Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU)

Flights between San Juan Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) and Bradley International Airport (BDL) will cease on January 9th. The route will still be served nonstop daily by both Frontier Airlines and JetBlue. Flights to Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) will have a limited run between February 14th and March 5th. Delta Airlines will continue to fly to San Juan daily.

Orlando

Orlando International Airport (MCO)

Two routes to/from Orlando International Airport (MCO) are being axed next year. El Savador International Airport (SAL) will see limited flights (2x to 3x weekly) between February 15th and March 5th. Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) will also see limited flights between February 14th and March 5th. Southwest and American Airlines will continue to offer nonstop service here.

Baltimore

Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI)

Flights between Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) and Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) will end on March 5th. Service to San Antonio International Airport (SAT) will cease on May 6th. Southwest will continue to fly both routes.

Other Routes

The following routes are also being removed:

  • Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE) to/from Tampa International Airport (TPA) (ends May 6th; United Airlines will continue to offer this route)
  • Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) to/from Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) (ends May 7th; American Airlines and Delta will continue flying between the two daily)
  • Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) to/from Palmerola International Airport (XPL) in Honduras (ends March 4th; United Airlines will continue to offer daily flights)
  • Oakland International Airport (OAK) to/from Orange County John Wayne Airport (SNA) (ends March 4th; Southwest will continue to fly the route)

Anthony’s Take: Airlines are continuously tweaking their schedules based on demand, aircraft availability, and more. Luckily, customers looking to fly nonstop on these routes have options with other carriers serving the same destinations.
