We spend our winters in Tampa and often find ourselves dining and exploring nearby St. Petersburg, which is known to many as St. Pete. The Edge District is home to more than two dozen restaurants and bars with many of them residing on the main street, Central Avenue. We have been watching the construction of the Moxy St. Pete for the past few years and I’m happy to report that it’s now open.
The design of the hotel is fun and playful. The lobby is inspired by the unique charm of downtown St. Petersburg, with its mural-lined streets and beautiful waterfront. The bright and playful space features a mid-century modern design with Florida beach decor accents. The check-in desk is surrounded by a mural showcasing a collage of botanical flora and fauna by Tampa artist Ashley Cassens and a sculptural art mirror by St. Pete artist Ted VanCleave.
It’s clear that many of the amenities are for a younger crowd, but I think anyone looking to stay in the heart of it all can enjoy this hotel. The Moxy St. Pete offers 163 guest rooms and suites, the Edge District’s first rooftop pool deck, a poolside bar, Rose’s coffee bar, a large lobby bar that opens up to the street, a podcast studio, conference space, and work areas. A new outpost of Fort Lauderdale’s Sparrow will open this fall and provide a rooftop dining and nightlife experience.
Rooms start around $249 per night, which is reasonable given the hotel’s proximity to everything that you’ll want to do in the area.
Anthony’s Take: I’m excited to check out this hotel and can see a little staycation in my future. St. Pete has a new hotspot on the rise and the hotel looks beautiful.
