I am a big fan of Lufthansa and have flown the German carrier countless times in First (review here) and Business Class across the Atlantic. It’s a consistent experience and while not as flashy as some of the Middle Eastern carriers, one that I feel is elegant and relaxing. There are generally not too many changes to what you can expect on board, so it’s exciting when Lufthansa announces new offerings.
There are more than 3,000 types of bread in Germany and bread culture has been part of the German UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage for ten years. Long-haul, Business Class passengers departing from Germany will be offered new bread choices by baker-sommelier and World Baker of the Year 2022, Axel Schmitt. The handmade bread will be rotated quarterly and baked fresh daily.
Lufthansa passengers will also be treated to a new signature drink called the Avionic as an alternative to the pre-departure water and sparkling wine currently served before take-off. The Avionic Apéritif is a special creation by the Ziegler distillery, developed with Sven Riebel, Frankfurt bar icon and “Host of the Year.” The drink has peach and wild meadow herb notes. It’s mixed on ice with tonic.
Finally, a vegetarian amuse-bouche will be added to the rotation and served prior to the meal. Fresh fruit will also be included on the dessert menu. Packaged snacks, fresh fruit, tomato and mozzarella skewers, or wraps with pastrami will be added for passengers to enjoy on select flights between meals. Starting in June, every passenger will be given a small box of Lindt chocolates in an exclusive Lufthansa design as a farewell gift.
Heiko Reitz, Chief Commercial Officer at Lufthansa Airlines, said:
The entire Lufthansa team is proud to present our new Business Class experience. Our culinary highlights, the celebration of German bread culture and the collaboration with traditional brands such as Ziegler for the new Lufthansa Aperitif Avionic underline the timeless elegance of our brand. The other new products that we will soon be introducing in various travel classes are further steps towards our goal of creating a whole new level of excitement for our guests.”
Anthony’s Take: I look forward to trying some of these new offerings on my next Lufthansa flight. This coupled with the new seats that are coming will make for a pleasant flight.
