Back in March 2024, I wrote about the JW Marriott Crete Resort & Spa planning to open this year. It was originally set to open on August 1st, but it looks like that timeline has moved up and it’s now bookable as early as July 1st. The property will be open seasonally until October 31st. Crete is my favorite Greek island and I love that there is another choice here. I was bummed to see the Blue Palace leave Marriott Bonvoy®. We’ve stayed there several times and loved each visit. This new property will hopefully help to fill the hole left on the island within Marriott’s portfolio.

The JW Marriott Crete Resort & Spa spans 100 acres and includes 160 luxury guest rooms, suites, and villas. The resort looks elegant with calming tones and modern designs. All suites and villas feature private pools or jacuzzis. It’s located in Chania along Marathi Beach and offers multiple pools, a fitness center, beach club, spa, and Family by JW experiences.

Dining and beverage options include ANOEE (a Cretan open-fire restaurant),  Õnalos (a refined sea-to-table concept), Cuccagna (offering rustic Italian dishes with a contemporary touch), Fayi (a Mediterranean style shared plates space), as well as Suncti by the Pool and Eēxis, which both serve wine, cocktails, and light dishes.

Bruce Rohr, Vice President and Global Brand Leader at JW Marriott, said:

The opening of JW Marriott Crete Resort & Spa marks a milestone moment for the brand with its entrance into Greece. This extraordinary property captures the essence of the JW Marriott brand, pairing warm, intuitive service with serene, thoughtfully designed spaces that invite guests to be present and truly connect. Crete’s timeless beauty and heritage make it an inspiring setting for the brand’s first property in the country, and we look forward to welcoming guests to experience our signature approach to hospitality and well-being on this iconic island.”

The property is close to Chania International Airport Ioannis Daskalogiannis (CHQ) and a two-hour drive from Heraklion International Airport (HER).

Paid and award stays are now bookable via Marriott.com. Cash rates range between €300 and around €1,000 per night while those looking to redeem Marriott Bonvoy® points will need to spend between 48,000 and 92,000 per night for a standard room.

Anthony’s Take: I’m excited for this property. The hotel looks gorgeous and I hope to go back to Crete again in the near future.
