Earlier today, I wrote about Frontier Airlines flying its first route to Honduras with flights between Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) and San Pedro Sula’s Ramón Villeda Morales International Airport (SAP). This was not the only new flight bound for Honduras as JetBlue also kicked off a new route there with flights between John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and San Pedro Sula’s Ramón Villeda Morales International Airport (SAP) also commencing today. JetBlue will operate the San Pedro Sula route using its Airbus A320 aircraft.

This route is one of 17 that JetBlue announced back in January. All of the others have already started flying, with the exception of the daily flights between Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) and Halifax Stanfield International Airport (YHZ). These were to begin on June 26th, but JetBlue cancelled the route in early May due to lack of demand.

Daniel Shurz, Senior Vice President of Network, Revenue, and Enterprise Planning at JetBlue, said:

We’re excited to add San Pedro Sula to JetBlue’s route map as we expand affordable, high-quality travel to underserved markets. This new route strengthens our presence in Central America and underscores our commitment to the region. We’re proud to offer New York travelers a new gateway to the culture and beauty of Honduras, while helping friends and relatives stay connected through the award-winning JetBlue experience.”

Malcolm Stufkens, Executive Secretary of Honduras’ National Airport Service, added:

We welcome this new direct route to New York and celebrate it as a significant step in strengthening Honduras’s air connectivity, which is a clear reflection of the success of the public investment our government has made in modernizing our airport infrastructure. The arrival of JetBlue not only expands the options available to our citizens and visitors but also underscores the growing confidence in Honduras as a key destination for commerce, tourism, and investment.”

This route marks JetBlue’s first destination in Honduras and reinforces the airline’s expansion across Latin America and the Caribbean. The region now accounts for over 1/3 of JetBlue’s overall capacity. JetBlue joins Avianca and United Airlines in connecting New York and San Pedro Sula. By the end of 2025, JetBlue will serve more than 40 international destinations.

Anthony’s Take: San Pedro Sula seems like the place to be with two airlines launching flights there today. I’ve never been, but have checked out Roatán on a cruise many years ago. I’ll have to add it to the list.

Fact check. JetBlue announced flights to Halifax but then backtracked and canceled the launch of the route.
