Back in November, Apple announced that its AirTags would become even more beneficial when they began sharing their location with more than 18 airlines. An iOS feature helps users locate and recover their items by securely sharing the location of an AirTag or Find My network accessory with airlines. Airlines began rolling this out with many already having the integration live. The latest to adopt this technology is JetBlue with bag tracking being added to its mobile app.

Apple Share My Location

When this was revealed, Apple shared that the 18 airlines that would connect with Find My item were:

  • Aer Lingus
  • Air Canada
  • Air New Zealand
  • Austrian Airlines
  • British Airways
  • Brussels Airlines
  • Delta Air Lines
  • Eurowings
  • Iberia
  • KLM Royal Dutch Airlines
  • Lufthansa
  • Qantas
  • Singapore Airlines
  • SWISS
  • Turkish Airlines
  • United Airlines
  • Virgin Atlantic
  • Vueling

Apple has worked with partner airlines to put systems in place to privately and securely accept Share Item Location, leveraging the hundreds of thousands of Apple devices many airlines are already using. Access to each link will be limited to assigned people with recipients needing to authenticate in order to view the item’s location.

Carol Clements, JetBlue’s Chief Digital and Technology Officer, said:

We are constantly looking for ways to offer our customers a more convenient travel experience. As part of our JetForward strategy, we’re focused on delivering the products and perks our customers want. This new in-app bag tracking feature, along with AirTag location sharing for baggage recovery, are designed to bring customers peace of mind when checking their bags with JetBlue.”

Anthony’s Take: JetBlue is the latest carrier to adopt AirTag luggage tracking. I love technology and am happy that airlines are quickly adopting ways to see where your luggage is headed.
