Just days after I wrote about JetBlue adding flights within Florida and bumping up capacity on several routes, the airline is back with a few cuts in order to have aircraft to accommodate these route updates. This fine-tuning of its network will help to reallocate capacity to stronger-performing markets, but I’m always sad to see Tampa International Airport (TPA) lose flights.
Flights between Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) and Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) as well as between New York LaGuardia Airport and Tampa International Airport (TPA) will both end on March 11th. JetBlue has said the changes will allow it to redeploy aircraft and crews to higher-performing markets. As I covered a few days ago, these additions include more frequencies between New York LaGuardia Airport (LGA) and Fort Lauderdale International Airport (FLL) to further strengthen this key leisure route.

JetBlue will also discontinue its seasonal international service between New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Tulum’s Aeropuerto Internacional Felipe Carrillo Puerto (TQO) on March 11th. This will mark the airline’s full exit from the Tulum leisure market. This move follows a wider industry pullback from Tulum since the opening of the destination’s new airport in late 2023. Several US airlines that initially launched multiple routes have since reduced capacity after demand fell short of early expectations. Delta Air Lines ended seasonal service from Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) and Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW). Spirit cut its flights before they even began. American Airlines also discontinued its flights to/from Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) last year. United Airlines chopped both Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). Finally, Discover, Copa, and Avianca have all abandoned the destination.
Anthony’s Take: JetBlue giveth and JetBlue taketh away. These cuts make sense based on demand. JetBlue needs to make its network more efficient and this is one way to move in that direction.
