ITA Airways has confirmed the final timeline for the closure of its Volare loyalty program as the airline continues its transition from SkyTeam to Star Alliance and deeper integration into the Lufthansa Group. The carrier announced that Volare will officially end on March 30th.

Members can continue earning and redeeming Volare points through March 30th. This date is also the final deadline to book award flights using points on ITA Airways and its partner airlines. Flights booked by that deadline can be taken within the following 12 months (allowing members to plan future travel even after the program ends).

ITA Airways is offering a limited transition window for unused points. From April 1st through June 30th, members can convert remaining points into a Volare gift card, which must be used by June 30th to book flights valid for travel within the next year. For non-flight redemptions such as products, partner services, or charitable donations, members have until April 30th to use their points.

Immediately following the closure of Volare, ITA Airways will join Miles and More as a fully integrated partner starting April 1st. Miles and More, the Lufthansa Group’s loyalty program, has more than 39 million members worldwide and includes over 170 global partners (including 35 airlines and 135 non-airline partners). The integration will roll out progressively throughout April with the goal of delivering a unified and seamless experience for travelers.

By joining Miles and More, ITA Airways customers will gain access to one of Europe’s most established loyalty networks. It offers broader earning and redemption opportunities across a wide range of airlines and partners. The move is also expected to create greater consistency for passengers traveling across Lufthansa Group airlines (aligning benefits and recognition across the network).

Anthony’s Take: The end of Volare and the transition to Miles and More represent a significant milestone in ITA Airways’ evolution. As the airline moves closer to full Star Alliance integration, the shift in loyalty programs underscores its strategy to deliver a more connected, global, and streamlined travel experience for its customers.
