Delta Air Lines is giving travelers a new reason to plan a Mediterranean getaway this summer with a limited-time award sale to Malta International Airport (MLA). It offers steep discounts across multiple cabins for travel between June and August and makes for a good time to cash in some of those SkyMiles.

The promotion, available through April 17th (though I’d move as seats will fill), significantly reduces the number of SkyMiles required for travel to one of Europe’s most popular island destinations during peak season. It has been 12 years since I was last in Malta and I’m excited to go back in July.

From New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK), award rates start at just 30,000 miles for Basic Economy (reflecting a 60% discount). Main Cabin fares begin at 56,000 miles and Comfort+ starts at 88,000 miles. Premium cabins are also included in the sale with Delta Premium Select beginning at 154,000 miles and Delta One® business class starting at 196,000 miles roundtrip. This represents a more than 50% reduction.

Travelers departing from other cities across the United States can also access discounted award pricing. Round-trip fares begin at 46,000 miles in Basic Economy, 77,000 miles in Main Cabin, and 88,000 miles in Comfort+. Premium Select starts at 155,000 miles and Delta One® fares begin at 280,000 miles.

Delta Malta Sale

These can all be purchased as one-way trips and I did just that. Since I hold a Delta co-branded American Express card, I got an additional 15% discount on the miles redeemed. This meant that I could turn 56,100 miles per person into two Delta Premium Select seats. Two Global Upgrade Certificates (GUCs) immediately cleared into Delta One®. That is an amazing deal and I’ll figure out a good way to get back home.

Anthony’s Take: The sale provides an opportunity for customers to secure summer travel to Malta at reduced mileage rates. I’m thrilled that it’s across all cabins. With demand for Mediterranean destinations remaining strong, the limited-time offer is expected to appeal to both leisure travelers and frequent flyers looking to maximize the value of their SkyMiles. While I question what loads look like on this new route, I’m not going to look a gift horse in the mouth.

A surprisingly good deal for Delta during peak season although the 767 has a pretty rough reputation in D1. Also, Malta gets pretty scorching in the middle of summer. Great island though.
