Icelandair announced today that it will move its operations to the upcoming Terminal 6 at New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK). It is the 15th carrier to sign on. It joins most Star Alliance airlines, Aer Lingus, Condor, Cathay Pacific, SAS, JetBlue, Condor, Kuwait Airways, and other international carriers that have made plans to inhabit the new space when it opens in 2026.

Terminal 6 is a key element of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s $19 billion transformation of New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK). This includes two new terminals, two expanded and modernized terminals, a new ground transportation center, and a simplified roadway. Icelandair currently flies 2x daily direct flights from New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Keflavík Airport (KEF). It’s positioning in Terminal 6 will make for easy connections with its partner, JetBlue.

The new Terminal 6 will offer a digital-first, boutique guest experience that provides less than five-minute average walks from the TSA security checkpoint to all of the terminal’s gates,100,000 square feet of NYC-inspired shopping, dining, lounges, and amenities. The project is being managed by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and JFK Millennium Partners.

Steve Thody, CEO of JFK Millennium Partners, said:

Icelandair has been an outstanding long-term partner at T7, and we’re excited to write our next chapter together at the new T6. As a leading international airline, Icelandair shares our commitment to sustainability and creating a memorable guest experience, and we can’t wait to open our doors to their passengers on our first day of operations.”

Anthony’s Take: The new Terminal 6 at New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) look great. I have been largely avoiding JFK as the construction and resulting traffic is horrendous, but once complete this looks like a good option for international trips.

“It is the 15th carrier to sign on (and the first from Latin America).”…….When was Iceland ever considered part of Latin America?

Thanks for catching that. I’m rushing this AM and was reading something on Avianca at the same time. LOL.
