Iberia will strengthen its transatlantic network next year with the launch of a new daily service between Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport (MAD) and Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR). The inaugural flight is scheduled for March 29th to coincide with the start of the airline industry’s summer season. This new route will complement Iberia’s existing 2x daily flights to New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK).

The addition of Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) enhances Iberia’s presence in one of its most important international markets. Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) offers quick and convenient access to Manhattan. This expansion underscores Iberia’s continued investment in North America and its goal of offering more connectivity and flexibility on high-demand routes.

During the 2026 summer season, Iberia will offer more than 350,000 seats between Madrid and New York (a 40% increase compared to 2025). This boost comes directly from the new Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) service and reflects growing demand for travel between Spain and the United States.

Iberia serves ten US destinations and will offer nearly two million seats in 2025 (supported by an average of 150 weekly flights). Its winter schedule includes 2x daily flights to both New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Miami International Airport (MIA), up to 2x daily flights to Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) and san Juan’s Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU), and expanded year-round service to Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD). Additional routes include Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD), Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), and Orlando International Airport (MCO). Plus, Iberia offers a summer-only service to San Francisco International Airport (SFO).

The daily Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) service will be operated by the Airbus A321XLR. The Airbus A321XLR enables long-range transatlantic flying with a single-aisle aircraft, reducing fuel consumption by up to 40%t compared to larger wide-body models. Passengers will experience Iberia’s latest Airspace cabin with LED lighting and two service classes: Business and Economy.

Iberia’s service expansion is reinforced by the North Atlantic joint business agreement with American Airlines, British Airways, and Finnair. Together, the partners offer access to 400 destinations in more than 100 countries. These provide seamless travel options for customers connecting through major hubs in Europe and North America.

The Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) route forms part of Iberia’s broader Flight Plan 2030 strategy, which includes a multibillion-euro investment in fleet renewal, digital transformation, customer experience enhancements, and expanded connectivity between Europe and the Americas. Iberia aims to grow its long-haul fleet from 48 to 70 aircraft under this plan.

In addition to the Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) launch, Iberia is rolling out several new routes across its network. Recent additions include Orlando International Airport (MCO) (served 4x times weekly). The airline will soon open flights to Aeroporto Internacional do Recife/Guararapes-Gilberto Freyre (REC) and Fortaleza-Pinto Martins International Airport (FOR) in northeastern Brazil as well as summer launches to Monterrey International Airport (MTY) and Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ).

María Jesús López Solás, Iberia’s Chief Commercial, Network Development and Alliances Officer, said:

Our new flight to Newark is a tangible example of how Iberia is bringing our Flight Plan 2030 to life — a roadmap designed to consolidate our position as the leader in connectivity between Europe and the Americas. The addition of Newark not only strengthens our presence in New York with a third daily frequency but also expands options for our customers by offering greater flexibility in schedules and fares, along with the advantages of multi-frequency service. Newark’s proximity to Manhattan makes it an excellent choice for the corporate market. Furthermore, diversifying between John F. Kennedy International Airport and Newark allows us to optimize operations and better adapt to market needs, reinforcing our position along one of the most strategic corridors across the Atlantic.”

Anthony’s Take: With the introduction of the Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) service, Iberia further cements its leadership on the Madrid to/from New York corridor while offering travelers more choice and convenience than ever before.
