Hong Kong Airlines is adding nonstop service between Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) and Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport (SYD). The new route will launch on June 20th.
Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport (SYD) is currently served from Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) by Cathay Pacific and Qantas. Hong Kong airlines is looking to add a little disruption here with its new route. The flights will be operated with Airbus A330-300 aircraft. These offer 32 Business Class and 260 Economy Class seats.
Hong Kong Airlines’ President, Jeff Sun, said:
The three-runway system at Hong Kong International Airport has increased the capacity for additional flights, and with the support of the two governments and related organizations, we are delighted to become the second Hong Kong-based airline to operate in Sydney. This new service will promote tourism, economic and cultural ties between Hong Kong and Australia. Sydney and Hong Kong have a rich shared history in aviation, and we are proud to be a part of this new chapter. Not only will it bring convenience to travelers, but it will also serve as a bridge connecting with our extensive mainland Chinese network.”
Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport (SYD) is the second Australian route that Hong Kong Airlines has recently added. Seasonal service to Gold Coast Airport (OOL) was just added last month.
Anthony’s Take: Hong Kong is my favorite international city and Sydney is a great place to visit. It’s good to see the oneworld® carriers get some competition on this route.
