United Airlines has done a good job of rolling out seatback entertainment across its fleet. The newest systems are pretty intuitive, have Bluetooth connectivity, and provide tons of content (access to even more from Spotify is coming soon). I love that I can track my flight and find myself always looking at the in-flight screen to see where we are on the journey. One maintenance team decided to have some fun with the system and changed the normal flight number to a humorous message. Some sensitive flyers might have been offended, but I find it pretty funny.
The seatback screens on a recent flight were adjusted to read “Flight BITEME1.” This is pretty harmless, but had to lead to some chuckles as well as some pearl clutching on the aircraft. This incident occurred on a flight to Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD). It likely resulted from the maintenance crew adjusting the system and having some fun along the way. The humor might be juvenile, but it reminds me of some of the fun words that are formed when you look at the standby or upgrade lists in the United app. The first three letters of a last name and the first initial often lead to some colorful four-letter words being displayed. Think words like “SHI,T” and “FUC,K.”
Anthony’s Take: Things like this always make me laugh. It’s immature, but it’s good to laugh at the little things.
