I might now have a reason to check out Frontier Airlines. The low-cost carrier announced today that it’s adding First Class seats to the first two rows of its aircraft beginning in 2025. This puts it in line with Spirit and the legacy carriers with a premium offering to meet the demand that has bubbled up over the past few years.
First Class Seats and Upgrades
Frontier says that “luxurious, spacious seats in the first two rows of the aircraft [will be] available late 2025.” Additionally, Elite Gold members (and above) will be eligible for complimentary upgrades into this new cabin. I’ll be curious to see if these seats include complimentary drinks and snacks, bags, and priority boarding. These details have yet to be revealed. UpFront Plus seating with guaranteed empty middle seats and premium First Class seats will both be offered for upgrades.
Unlimited Companion Travel
Frontier is offering free unlimited companion travel for Platinum and Diamond Elite members starting in mid-2025. This means that these elite members can bring a friend or family member on any flight for free. There are no limits to the number of bookings that can be made. Southwest has offered its companion passes for years and Frontier is serving up a modified version of that pass.
Miles Will Be Redeemable For Bags and Seats
In mid-2025, FRONTIER Miles can be used for bundled options such as baggage, seats, and other add-ons with transparent pricing across four tailored bundles: Basic, Economy, Premium, and Business.

Anthony’s Take: This is exciting news for Frontier flyers and those looking for what will surely be bargain premium travel. This will also put some price pressure on the legacy carriers when fully rolled out. The companion benefits are also pretty awesome.

I’m being cautious awaiting to see the actual implementation and the terms/conditions. Will the companion still have to pay the $30-ish Frontier-added fee? Are they just waiving the very, very low base fare? Which means they’ve essentially gotten most of the cash intake anyway off the “freebie” kind of like when you try and use Frontier miles to redeem for a ticket. For upgrades, sounds great, but we will see… if they’re going to be like Delta and rarely if ever have seats available for a freebie on day of departure. Lately on Spirit if I buy a ticket within a week of flight I can seldom find a Big Front Seat still available for sale (and often much further out).
So sounds good but we shall see…
