Low-cost carrier, Frontier Airlines, is adding six new routes from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL). The airline’s first flight to San Pedro Sula’s Ramón Villeda Morales International Airport (SAP) takes off today. This is the first time that Frontier has served Honduras.
In addition to the flight to San Pedro Sulas, Frontier is also launching new routes between Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) and Jacksonville International Airport (JAX), Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW), and St. Louis Lambert International Airport (STL). These will all run 2x weekly with the exception of St. Louis (it’s 3x weekly). Tomorrow, Frontier will debut two more routes: John Glenn Columbus International Airport (CMH) and Palm Beach International Airport (PBI). These will also run 2x weekly.
Josh Flyr, Vice President of Network and Operations Design at Frontier Airlines, said:
We are thrilled to launch these additional six routes from ATL this week, including our first ever service to the beautiful country of Honduras – just the latest in our growth in Atlanta. Our departures from ATL are up 40 percent year over year this month, which means more ultra-low cost travel options for Atlanta-area consumers traveling throughout the United States, Latin America, and beyond.”
While passengers will likely be happy with another choice out of Atlanta, Delta cannot be pleased that Frontier continues to add flights at its megahub. Frontier reports 40% growth year over year this month at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) and with each route there will hopefully be price pressure to keep costs down. As it does many times with the introduction of new routes, Frontier is offering offering one-way fares as low as $49 during a current sale.
Anthony’s Take: Atlanta is a closely guarded fortress and any additions generally rile up Delta. Let’s see what they do with the fares on these new routes.
