Passengers on Iberia Airlines flight IB 102 got served some antisemitism along with their Kosher meals. The flight departed from Buenos Aires’ Ministro Pistarini International Airport (EZE) and was en route to Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport (MAD) when the discoveries were made on August 4th. The labels on the trays had either “Free Palestine” or “FP” written on them with magic marker.

Salvador Auday (a passenger on the flight) shared the following with The Times of Israel:

I reported the incident to the head flight attendant, who took down the complaint, took photos, etc. They tried to apologize in every possible way. Apparently, it wasn’t any of the crew members, so if it came from outside, I’d imagine that Iberia will conduct an internal investigation of its suppliers and procedures. That’s precisely why I reported it, so that it doesn’t get forgotten.”

Iberia has launched an investigation and released the following statement:

The Iberia crew documented the incident and took action to assist those affected. The captain personally approached them to apologize on behalf of the airline. [Iberia] categorically rejects any form of discrimination, incitement to hatred, or behavior that undermines the dignity of individuals.”

The Delegation of Argentine Jewish Associations (DAIA), which represents the Latin American Jewish community, said that it considers this a serious act of antisemitism. This is the second recent incident involving a Spanish airline and antisemitic behavior. Last week, a group of students and their advisors were removed from a Vueling Airlines flight after the group was accused of not following crew instructions. They countered that they were simply singing and that the incident was antisemitism and not disobedience.

Anthony’s Take: It will be interesting to see if Iberia can figure out who wrote these messages on the meals and what action is taken if an individual is discovered.

I wonder how easy it would be for a passenger to simply write something down, take a photo of it and post it online to make a huge deal of it.
Seems like it would be pretty easy.

If the DAIA considers this “a serious act of antisemitism” then they must be shouting themselves hoarse over how bad the Islamophobes are handing out hatred in job lots. This was a minor incident and a stupid move by a prize idiot who’s too spineless to confront someone in person. While we shouldn’t ignore this let’s keep things in perspective.

MTG said it best – expressing support for the people of Gaza is not antisemitic.
